Now is 7/30/17 00:00:00. The end of the fourth week in NHSGA.
Intro:
Our team is named Rush Hour 4 (aka. Team 12 in GA) (because we have 4 Asians and 1 black).
Team Member: Universal Hunte (Producer/Artist), Jim Qian (Programmer), John Ma (Artist), Ethan SomethingIForget (Programmer), and me Kevin Y (Sound Designer).
Since it is a "idea pitch" week, we played a lot of games and gathered a lot of thoughts. The rules are selecting three game ideas on different platforms and refine them. The TAs in GA will help us select the best choice to be developed in the next two weeks.
We came up with "Farm Fighter" on Oculus Touch, "Rusted" on PC, and "Two for Tango" on mobile.
"Farm Fighter" is a VR based First-Person-Shooter game. Player's camera is fixed on a certain 3D vector. Players can only use the headset to change perspectives and use your controllers as gun to shoot back invaders.
We even came up with a balanced arm system: Each time the player shoots down an enemy, he gets more gold. Between waves of enemies, players can turn back their head to buy upgraded weapons.
This game gets soooooooooooo dissed during the first pitch round. All TAs thought we were too far gone. "You cannot make those work in two weeks. You are overscoped."
Sure.
So we limited the functionalities.
Players can no longer get upgraded weapons and can only use their dumbass shot gun all the times. But we moved the perspective into a moving car. Players have to shoot back the enemies on the non-stop car. If an invader does not get eliminated in time, players lose one hp. (out of 10)
SO that's the compromise.
But I can still see TAs' "that's not ur game BITCH" face in the second round.
All right.
"Rusted" is a sidescroller platformer. I really like the idea because firstly we wrote a really good script about it (I won't say it until we release the game), and secondly I am a HUGE fan of platformer indie games.
And this idea gets pitched because I am good. I made good BGM and everybody likes it.
And because our programmer is good. He did a lot of work on Demo.
And because our artists are good. They did make it work.
So I'm not gonna say anything about it right now (Gabe N's face) until we have more things to say about.
(Surprise MuthaFuka)
Our third idea came when we were playing Pony Island. The dialogs in the simulated computer system get us the idea of combining the concept of Lifeline and the contradictory lines. It excites me in the first time because (it is gonna save me a lot of time and) I would like to be a script writer. The core mechanics in this game are more focused on the plot and being the one who can control players' mind is always my dream job.
First pitch: TAs: Interesting. I wanna see more details about it on Friday. Give me the script when it is ready.
Second pitch: TAs: (muted)
Manager: You know what. EA released a similar game around 2003 like this. You are gonna have a talk with me if we choose this idea.
And it is not pitched.
I guess he is not in the mood talking to us after everyone in the team was playing their stuff during the pitch round.
So
"Rusted."
We shall see.
